Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if there is a specific fund that supports what I want to support?
Please review our funds list. If you don’t find the fund you’re looking for, please contact the Office of Advancement and Community Relations at (706) 721-1143 or email us at development@georgiahealth.edu.
What is the difference between an Endowment Fund and an Expendable Fund?
Benefiting the university in perpetuity, endowment funds are invested to generate a steady stream of income. The principal, which remains intact, is held in an interest-bearing account, and the investment income is then used according to the specified purpose of that fund. You can find endowment funds for scholarships, professorships, fellowships, lectureships, and many other purposes.
An expendable fund is a ready resource for the spending purpose established in the fund agreement. Expendable funds do not earn investment income. Expendable funds also exist for a variety of purposes.
What is a foundation?
A foundation is an entity that has been granted its 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service to receive charitable gifts. The Georgia Health Sciences Foundation was founded in August 2008 as the official partner designated to manage philanthropic gifts to the Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) and its components.
